Normal and Different

As explained earlier, man has evolved. What separates them, the Normal and the Different, is a more complicated story than one might anticipate.

Let me start with the Normal.

Normals are the new kind of man, and the vast majority at that. There is the telepathic link that mankind has created, of course, and allow me to take a moment to explain that. As they speak to each other, Normals can send empathic impulses to each other to fortify and further illuminate the things they are talking about. Though this may sound like a grand gift, it has brought the human race to rot and ruin. It has changed people. They don't innovate anymore. Then don't create new things anymore. Normals are fantastic scavengers and can create life anywhere they like, to an extent. But Normals do not question, and they rarely do anything unexpected. The only thing a Normal is particularly gifted at is being malicious- all other talents come second to that.

Different means that a character is oblivious to these empathic impulses and cannot convey anything in conversation aside from physical means. Different people are the rare innovators, the ones who can build things out of nothing else at all. Different is mankind as we know it. All Different babies are marked at birth by a blue barcode on the inside of either eyelid.

They share this world with one given in mind- that Normals hate the Different. They are impossible to communicate with and do not seem to hold dear the same things that Normal people are expected to. They are the reason that the world is falling apart, their dwindling numbers the reason for the rapid decay of society and its maintenance. Normals resent the Different naturally without having to make a conscious decision- that's just how it is.

Rping a Normal:
Talk. Be simple. Kill the Different. There's really all there is to it. Feel free to take creative license with the mental link that all Normals share- use it to learn things about people that they don't say out loud, use it to converse while imparting emotional relevance to those things. Minimize your body language. Be creative with it, but please keep in mind that the reason the world has moved on is because Normals in general don't create or feel inspired and motivated to change things.
Keep in mind that most Normals can't read and have little use for it. Therefore, most of the places in RtR have simple or abridged names. In character, a Normal is more likely to say or think 'Center City,' whereas a Different would use the technical spelling.
Remember, you can tell whether someone is a Different with hardly a glance, and it is only appropriate that you treat them like one.

Rping a Different:
Don't get attached, you're probably going to wind up dead. Explore the world, find a way to be happy without the telepathic link that everyone else seems so content to enjoy. Struggle. Fight. Live. Go somewhere and change something. Be content with a small life, struggle in rebellion and angst, or just succumb to wanderlust. Remember, though a Normal can tell whether a person is Different, there is no way for a Different to know unless they figure it out or are told. Normals despise you and resent you for several reasons. Though it is entirely possible to be friends with a Normal, there will always be an undertone of disgust and hate for you. Your kind is dying out, which is why the world is falling apart. You cannot communicate with your mind, though Normals can get a sense of what is there. They find you disgusting and disabled in a lot of ways, simply because of your telepathic 'blank stare' that insults and aggravates all Normals to a degree.
